Modafinil is a medication that is used to help people with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), or shift work sleep disorder (SWSD) stay awake throughout the day. The medication will not heal these diseases and will only be effective for as long as you continue to take it.
The product is a stimulant and wakefulness-promoting drug that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Several substances in your brain regulate sleep and wakefulness. Modafinil reduces the amount of these substances in the body, hence preventing EDS.
Modafinil, unlike other stimulants such as amphetamines, has few adverse effects (dependency or hyperarousal) and is deemed safe. It is available under several brand names, including Provigil®, and is reasonably priced.
